The Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Department (TNHUD), on June 29, 2026, notified an amendment to the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules, 2019, modifying the requirements relating to the transfer of land to local bodies in industrial layouts and industrial estates.
The amendment inserts a proviso under Rule 47(8) providing that industrial layouts or industrial estates developed by a Government department or Government agency (including joint ventures) are not required to transfer 0.5% of the project area to the Local Body. Instead, the concerned applicant must reserve and maintain the specified area.
The amendment provides regulatory relief to Government-developed industrial projects while ensuring that the designated area continues to be earmarked and maintained by the developer.
